The Basics Of Affiliate Marketing

If you are an internet marketer then more often that not you are going to be earning at least some income through affiliate marketing. What exactly is affiliate marketing? In this post I am going to cover the basics of affiliate marketing and the process that goes into it.

The basic idea behind affiliate marketing is that you are an affiliate (pretty surprising, right?) to any type of merchant that is selling a product. And as an affiliate you promote the merchants products in hopes of earning a commission for every sale that you make. This is what affiliate marketing is. It is really that simple. However, what isn’t simple is how you go about the process of selling other people’s products. Its one thing to understand the concept of marketing as an affiliate and another to actually take your knowledge and put it to use. This is why I am going to outline the process for you by telling you about some of the steps that go into affiliate marketing. You know, the part where you will actually be marketing.

Find An Affiliate Program

The first step to being an affiliate is to find an actual affiliate program to take part in. There are tons of affiliate programs out there to finding one shouldn’t be a problem. But something that you should think about before trying to start marketing a product is what kind of niche you are interested in. Once you have decided what type of niche you would like to work with then you can go ahead and sign up for an affiliate program. If you are curious as to if the niche you are interested in has affiliate programs then simply type a company name or niche followed by affiliate programs into Google. For example, if I were to be interested in being an affiliate in the gaming industry I might type in something like “Video Game Affiliate Programs”. See what I mean?

Your other option is to sign up with bigger affiliate networks so that you have the flexibility of choosing from many types of niches containing thousands of products. Some of the most popular affiliate networks are ClickBank, Commission Junction, and PayDotCom. These networks offer a wide variety of products for you to promote and signing up for each one is relatively easy.

Marketing Your Affiliate Products

After finding an affiliate program that you are happy with you will need to actually start promoting whichever product you have chosen. Believe it or not, you will actually be marketing something. So, how do you go about marketing a product online? Well, assuming that you are new to affiliate marketing and internet marketing in general this will mostly be a process of trial and error and learning through experience. And I don’t want to go to in depth with marketing methods because this is meant to be the basics of affiliate marketing but I will give you a few of the most popular methods.

The cheapest way for new affiliate marketers to get started is by using a method called Bum Marketing. This is a method of marketing that takes advantage of free resources around the internet in order to drive traffic to your merchant and ultimately make sales. However, it is important to know what you are doing when using free marketing methods before going ahead and using them because you will end up wasting your time if you don’t. Another popular method of marketing is called PPC or pay per click. Be warned though, this is not a free method. Basically, what you do is bid on keywords through Google Adwords or other similar services in order to place sponsored ads on websites and drive sales. If you are new to affiliate marketing then you should probably steer clear of this method as it can drain your bank account quickly if you don’t know what you are doing.

Make A Killing

After you have chosen an affiliate program to promote and marketed a product of your choice all you need to do is…well you don’t need to do a thing! In just a week you will have earned almost $50,000 and within a year you will already be a multimillionaire. Because remember, you don’t need to work hard in order to be successful!

Ok, hopefully you can see that I’m just messing around and blatantly mocking those “make money online” commercials you see on TV. Affiliate marketing requires hard work and persistence in order to be successful and actually make some money online. You can’t expect to get rich quick because honestly you won’t. However, if you give affiliate marketing some serious effort and time you will get something out of it in time.
