When it comes to researching keywords there is really only one search engine that is worth focusing on and that is Google. Google is by far the most popular search engine used on the internet which is why you should focus your efforts on researching keywords for Google. So, how exactly should you go about researching keywords? Below is a step by step process of keyword research and how you should go about doing it in order to get the best results. Getting familiar with the process will help you understand the importance of keyword research.

1. Determine Your Niche Market

Now, this first step is a very basic one but I will cover it for those who may not have taken it into account. The very first thing that you will need to do before you start actually researching keywords is to identify the niche that you plan on marketing to. You need to do this so that you have a basic understanding of what your niche is interested in and can successfully market to them. For example, if your niche was “making money online” then you would need to do a little research as to what this niche is interested in.

2. Think Up Some Generic Keyword Phrases

After identifying your niche and what the niche is interested you will need to think up some generic keyword phrases that are related to your niche’s interests. If your niche was “making money online”, an example of a generic keyword phrase would be “how to make money online”. The idea is that you compile a list of generic keyword phrases that you think people in your niche are using so that you can flesh out more specific phrases later with a keyword research tool. So, what you will want to do is just compile a list of generic keyword phases into a word document. In order to come up with the most profitable keywords you need to try and think like someone who is interested in your niche market. Ask yourself, “If I wanted to make some money online what would I type into Google in order to find information related to making money online?”. If you can think like a hungry consumer in your niche market then you will hit the jackpot later on.

3. Use A Keyword Research Tool And Flesh Out You Keyword List

The third and final step of keyword research is actually using a keyword research tool in order to find profitable keywords with relatively low competition. There are many keyword research tools available online (some that cost money and others that don’t). The phrase that I originally typed in was “make money online” and as you can see it gave me phrases that are similar to this one as well as their competition. When you are using this tool you will want to find similar phrases that are both profitable and have low competition. Because if you attempt to target a phrase like “make money online” then you are going to get obliterated by the competition. That is why it is important to find long tail keywords that are being searched for but have a lower competition. Once you are able to identify profitable phrases with low competition then you can attack that keyword phrase and essentially dominate the first page results on Google.

The importance of keyword research ultimately lies in finding profitable keywords that don’t have a lot of competition. But the process behind doing this can take a lot of hard work and dedication.
